Ever had a project fail ?

TBD

Did you have a project fail although it had a clear scope with well-defined requirements, was staffed with the appropriate resources, had a great communication plan, and had adequate budget? There could be a myriad of reasons why projects fail, but how can you detect, and course correct before the project comes to a grinding halt?

TBD

Clear goals, good planning, good communication, adequate budget, good project leadership and the right project team are key components for a successful project. However, unmanaged risks in one or more of these areas can de-rail a project. How do you get in front of these risks before it becomes a showstopper? Below are some guidelines to help:

TBD

  • Stakeholders should build trust
    • Stakeholders need to encourage their project leaders to be completely transparent when reporting risks

TBD

  • Leaders should be encouraged to report a risk
    • Teams should report (yellow status) even if there is a small probability of this derailing the project
    • Risks should be brought up even if there is a high probability of being resolved
    • Challenge the project team when the project status is always green.

TBD

  • Leaders should be more open to discuss risks
    • Project teams should feel comfortable there will be no stigma or repercussions for reporting a possible risk
    • Encourage open dialogue and this will help to identify risks early and help to course correct before the risk becomes a showstopper.

TBD

Risks and their mitigation plans should be reviewed and prioritized regularly with stakeholders.
